about
#nolobstervoices Here is a 2 minute dance song, set to an underwater stoner video. This song is borne of gut-wrenching angst, and trying to find inspiration in the face of devastating odds. I hope it may bring you the inspiration to face some fears with courage and humour, some kick-ass dancing & genuine smiles.
Two years ago my daughter Alexandra got some horrible news. Instead of enjoying a lovely dinner with her fiancé, she was called down to the hospital, and ended up being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. This triggered over 5 months of gut-wrenching angst, only to be followed by crippling grief. I want to thank everyone who has reached out in love and support. I am still mostly ‘hiding under a rock’, but i feel your love, and have been slowly healing. I believe anyone who has experienced deep grief may agree that it is not just emotional pain, but physical pain. I feel deeply bruised and exhausted, still I continue to aim to live a life that both my daughters will be proud to call me dad.
Like many of us, i turn to music as some kind of therapy. I know Alex loves to dance, and i knew she could use a lot of inspiration. Some words came to me, and i found a compelling dance beat. I sent her a little demo, and much to my delight she said she was obsessed with the song, and it did indeed make her get up and dance. She gave me a couple more lines, and asked me to make an ‘underwater stoner video’ for it.
The first public release of this song (Forced Lobster Merriment) i used very distinct vocal effects, but i always felt this song deserved a version without those effects. I recently found a few more words, and dove back into the mix to create this new version of the song. I often get strong feelings that Alley is still with me, cheering and guiding me, and this project has been a decent way for me to channel some angst and grief.
I know this time of year is very difficult for many people, and i wish my music had much stronger healing powers, still i hope you too might get some cheer and inspiration from our quirky little tune.
lyrics
It’s Scary (Tom Eastland, Alexandra Eastland, Rob Eastland)
Don't worry. It's scary.
Don't scurry. Be merry!
We have a new lease on life.
We're gonna have a very good time.
We never had the chance to sing.
We're gonna do, gonna do this thing!
Don't worry. It's scary.
Don't scurry. Be merry!
Let me eat! Let blood bleed!
Set me free! Let me be!
Get outta your shell,
dance pell mell!
get outta your shell,
ring that bell!
Don't worry. It's scary.
Don't scurry. Be merry!
You never felt so alone,
you never felt so far from home
We’re gonna make the chance to sing.
We're gonna do, gonna do this thing!
Don't worry. It's scary.
Don't scurry. Be merry!
